Level 1 Dog Training

Unleash your good dog!

Our Level Dog Training operates with 5 intakes throughout year and, thanks to our pool of volunteer instructors who generously make themselves available, we can normally run up to 5 classes per term.  Each class has 2 instructors ensuring that you get quality time with your instructors every week.

Unfortunately all remaining 2019 classes are now fully subscribed.  We will open registrations for 2020 towards the end of November, so please check back then if that is still of interest.  Thank you.

Next available start dates can be found by clicking on REGISTER HERE or for more information on term dates select CALENDAR from the menu bar and scroll through the months using the left and right arrow keys. Note - you may also need to scroll down to view all dates in the month.

To enrol in this class, dogs must be at least four months old and the handler of the dog must be at least 15 years of age (unless prior arrangement has been made with the club).

Registration can be completed on-line by clicking on the link to the left.  Please also download and read this document to ensure that you are fully prepared for the class.

Course Content

In this class you will learn how to:

  • understand your dog better and communicate effectively

  • teach your dog the basic commands - sit, down, stay, heel and come

  • teach your dog to obey quickly and to ignore distractions

  • solve common problems like jumping up, pulling on the lead and excessive barking.

Overall, the aim of this course is to help you to get better control over your dog, so you can enjoy your walks more and be able to give your dog some off-lead time to play and socialize with other dogs.

In order to get maximum benefit from the course we will also give you homework to practice for 5 to 10 minutes every day.

Our Training Philosophy

Dogs learn better and are more willing to engage in activities with you when they are having fun and are happy.  That is why in modern obedience all training is based on positive methods.  We use a system of rewards and praise to get the dogs to focus on you and what you want from them.
